TORIC intraocular lenses (IOL's), IOL's to correct astigmatism must be properly aligned to be effective. This can be challenging in small pupil cases where the TORIC IOL markings may not be visible. Since alignment is finalized after the viscoelastic has been removed from the eye, you can have difficulty aligning the IOL whether or not you use a pupillary expansion device. At the time of alignment, the pupillary expansion device has already been removed. This video also illustrates use of intraoperative aberrometry to align a TORIC IOL axis.
