Hi, friends. I’m Marty Walden. Two years ago in June 2021 I got the most devastating news that completely shattered my world. After a failed life insurance application I received a letter telling me 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐇𝐈𝐕 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. In that moment my life shattered and today I'm here telling my story in hopes my tragedy can encourage you in some way. When I went to the Infectious Disease Clinic and my bloodwork was run I discovered I am indeed HIV positive, with a diagnosis of AIDS because of my compromised immune system. My husband was brought in to be tested and his diagnosis was the same. Before the diagnosis I had struggled for years as I watched my health deteriorate . Thousands of dollars were spent with functional medicine, protocols and supplements, seeing every dr. possible and trying to get better physically. I would later understand this was HIV attacking my body. AND NO ONE TESTED ME FOR HIV. IT’S JUST NOT DONE. I was female, married, in my 60's, middle class and white. Not one dr. gave HIV a second thought. I now believe I was at least eight years undiagnosed which has caused the multitude of health problems I now live with. Every day is a fight for my health and emotional well being. I believe I’m not the only woman in my situation with HIV. However, the stigma is so great it takes tremendous courage to come forward and tell the truth. This just doesn’t happen to women like me. And yet it does. This video is my declaration to change the dialogue around HIV, to battle the stigma of the disease and bring a message of hope to those who feel like they’ve been given a death sentence. My heart’s desire is this channel will be a beacon of hope, not only for those with HIV or AIDS but with anyone whose life has crumbled and needs help picking up the pieces. I want this to be more of a conversation about surviving hard things than just information on HIV. Our stories may be different but the wounds are the same. Please be kind in the comments. Email me privately if you’d like. I can’t guarantee to respond to every one but I will try. 𝐀𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬.
