The flowers keep arriving at the Lorain Police Department, carried by grief-stricken visitors. Hundreds of candles, flowers and flags are gathered in front of the station. Officer Phillip Wagner will never come home. Officers Brent Payne and Peter Gale are recovering from their wounds, but the scars run deep. The fear every family lives with: Margaret Feliciano places flowers among the growing memorial. Her son wore a Cleveland Police badge for 25 years before retiring three years ago. The fear never left her. "I was scared every time my son would go, you know, in the morning work, especially, you know, being a a motorcycle unit, it was scary," she says. Now, looking at this memorial, she sees herself in Officer Wagner's widow. "I'm praying for them and praying for the children. I feel so bad for them because I know how she's feeling right now. 'Cause I lost my husband last year." The weight of the badge: Trish Poole came to the memorial today. Her husband, a police officer for Sheffield Village. Thinking of the harsh reality officers face, brings her to tears. "It's not fair for them to get up in the morning going to work and not being able to know if they're gonna make it home or not. It's not fair for the families," she says. The questions that keep her awake are simple and terrible: "They were ambushed. Why? Why?" But Trish knows something else, something that connects her husband to Officer Wagner and every other officer across the country: "It did happen to them. 'Cause that's their brother. And ... they all feel it. They all feel it. They all feel it."
