Join us as we go to Cumberland Island for part 1 of its history. We share its early history as a sea island cotton plantation and the remarkable story of how the former slaves there became employees after emancipation, and encouraged to invest their money by their boss. When Robert Stanford died, his employees had saved and invested enough to buy homes on the island and found their own little town, The Settlement. Their descendants lived here until the 1960’s.
