This is a video I made after I made a YT short on the movement of the distributor gear, in relation to the block. In that video, and the beginning of this I show the excessive clearance between the block and bronze distributor gear. It had to be at least +0.025 of an inch. Someone had said that it should be in the area of 8-10 thousandths. I decided further evaluate. As you will see the bronze MSD distributor gear thrust area is well worn. So I did some measuring, MSD recommends the distance between the base of the distributor, where it seats on block to bottom of gear, with no slack, at 3.996-4.005. I measured multiple times, the original length, a new MSD crank trigger Distributor/MSD 8577 billet Distributor, replaced bronze gear on my distributor with a new one, and measured. I was going to just take the bronze gear off the crank trigger, and install on my MSD 8577, but had no press, and could not remove with center punch. I was not going to beat on it. Then I figured I should just buy a new MSD 8577, which I did. That distributor, came with a cast gear, not correct for a billet cam. I did not even bother to try and remove gear. So I bought a bronze gear, MSD 8581, and installed on my old distributor. Installed it in 409C, it had decreased clearance, was withing specs, and sending it. Note to self, need to get a press....
