The provincial capital saw continuous rainfall over the last 24 hours, leading to various rain-related incidents and infrastructure breakdowns. At least two people were reported dead in the city due to rain-linked accidents, according to rescue officials. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported that 210 feeders tripped across different areas, plunging multiple neighbourhoods into darkness. LESCO officials stated that repairs will begin once the rain stops to ensure crew safety. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), different areas of Lahore recorded varying levels of rainfall during the 24-hour period: Gulberg’s GMA Town received 98mm Madina Town 91mm Nishtar Town 50mm Airport area 24mm Other parts of Lahore 15mm Chunian In Talwandi Kot Piran area of Chunian, the roof of a house collapsed during heavy rain, burying two young sisters under the rubble. The deceased have been identified as 8-year-old Arfa and 4-year-old Farwa. Rescue teams reached the scene and recovered the bodies, which were shifted to the local hospital. Okara In Okara, a five-year-old girl died after the roof of her house caved in during the monsoon downpour. Rescue teams responded promptly but could not save the child. Jhelum (Sohawa) A man drowned in a rain-swollen storm drain in Sohawa, Jhelum district. According to rescue officials, the body was recovered shortly after the incident. The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed. Bahawalnagar In the Bole Wali Kat area of Bahawalnagar, the roof of a mud house collapsed due to continuous rain, killing a 4-year-old child. Rescue services rushed to the location and recovered the body from the debris. Punjab toll So far, at least seven people have lost their lives across Punjab due to rain-related incidents: 2 in Lahore 2 in Chunian 1 in Okara 1 in Jhelum (Sohawa) 1 in Bahawalnagar PDMA officials stated that this monsoon system is likely to continue till July 1, urging preparedness across vulnerable districts.
