ERN eUROGEN Webinar 116: Validity of robotic donor nephrectomy in a limited-resource European state

This webinar was presented on Wednesday 12th February 2025 by Dr. Albertas Cekauskas, Head of the Urology Clinic at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, which is a full member of ERN eUROGEN. This webinar was supported by ESPU and was aimed at health-care providers. The advancement of robotic-assisted surgery, particularly in the field of donor nephrectomy, has revolutionised organ transplantation. However, the implementation of such cutting-edge technology in smaller, limited-resource countries presents unique challenges and opportunities. This webinar explores the validity and success of robotic donor nephrectomy at Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos in Lithuania, a prime example of how smaller European countries are adapting to these innovations despite resource constraints. During this webinar an overview of the procedure and its benefits over traditional laparoscopic methods is presented, along with how the role of robotic surgery is improving patient outcomes, reducing recovery times, and enhancing precision. eUROGEN is the European Reference Network for rare and complex urogenital diseases and conditions.
