Methoni is dominated by an amazing Byzantine Castle, perched on the headland, overlooking the town which wraps around a beautiful bay and harbour. The colour of the water has to be seen to be believed, as does the castle itself! Finikounta is a beach town with no real history, having been established by refugees from Crete in the 1850's, but has a couple of fantastic beaches and is ideal for those wishing to get away from the fast pace of the Greek Islands.
