A graduate from the prestigious Julliard School in New York, the composer and pianist made a name for himself alongside legends such as Brandford and Wynton Marsalis, as well as Christian McBride. He has appeared on the Broadway classic The Phantom Of The Opera and on the soundtrack of the biopic Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. In 2023, the young musician released his critically acclaimed debut album The Southern Suite, followed by My Ideal, a recent session with vocalist Catherine Russell. Performing at Clermont Ferrand’s Maison de la Culture as part of the Jazz En Tête festival, the Sean Mason Quartet exudes elegance throughout their concert. The American pianist’s predisposition for timeless swing is evident in every track. Accompanied by Tony Glausi on trumpet, Corentin Le Hir on double bass and Domo Branch on drums, Sean Mason kicks off the set with “On The Sunny Side Of The Street,” a classic made famous by Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra. The powerful “One United” evokes the spirit of the Deep South and its vibrant artistic melting pot. The concert closes with an instrumental take on Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” delivering a stunning, acrobatic finale.
