In this video, Pouyan Famini, MD, an endocrinologist at the UCLA Endocrine Center, discusses Graves’ disease, a common autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. What's unique about this disease is that it causes a specific antibody to stick to the thyroid gland, telling it to produce more thyroid hormone. This leads to hyperthyroidism, which can cause symptoms like anxiety, shaking, sensitivity to heat, weight loss and frequent bowel movements.
