A CALL TO THE FIRST LOVE Thursday 27th June 2024 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves [as to] whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. Each one of us needs to take stock of his or her spiritual life daily and re-examine ourselves in the mirror of God's love in all aspects of our lives. We need to examine our motives; why we do the things we do, what drives our sacrifices, and see if the driving force is Love. That was why the word of the Lord came to the church of Ephesus; Revelation 2:2-4 "I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars, [3] and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary. [4] Nevertheless I have [this] against you, that you have left your first love. The church was doing everything right, yet had left their first love. God is not impressed by what we do; our motives and intentions count the most in the eyes of the Lord. Remember, God desires to be loved. For this reason, He is calling us to examine our hearts and see whether we are driven by His love or something else. 2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us... Are you still standing in the right place (of the first love) or are you moved by other things? As you examine yourself, remember your first love. When the Holy Spirit reveals to you that thing, the best thing is not to argue with Him but to be like David who fell on his face and said, "I am guilty, help me." Don't be like Saul who defended his error and mistakes to the point where it took a rebuke for him to come to his senses, after forsaking the mercy that was availed to him. Ecclesiastes 7:8 The end of a thing [is] better than its beginning... It is the little foxes that spoil the vine. Let us be sincere to ourselves, break before the Lord and sustain a heart posture of humility, and contrition of spirit till the end (Psalms 51:17) God is extending His mercy to each one of us, to examine ourselves and see if we are still standing in the faith.
