Many places in Europe are complaining about overtourism these days. Italy, France, and many places in Spain - Majorca and Barcelona for example. But it's not just a problem for the Mediterranean. Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos:   / threestarvagabond   Gotland may not be an international destination in the same way as Barcelona is, but it still receives around a million visitors every year - and most of them arrive in the town of Visby, with 24 000 inhabitants. That puts enormous pressure on the local infrastructure, and causes water shortages. But the problems don't stop there. The tourism also raises the cost of living, and drives up the real estate prices all over the island. And Gotland is the place with the lowest median income in Sweden. Which of course means that people from Stockholm or from abroad have no problem in buying up properties. But there's a lot more to explore about the overtourism of Gotland - and I also draw some parallels with Barcelona in this video. And the question is what people are doing about it?
