Nissan plans to reintroduce the classic Micra model in 2025 as an all-electric vehicle to tap into the growing very small electric vehicle market. Competing with models like the Renault 5, BYD Dolphin, MG4, and Volkswagen ID.1, the new Micra will be built on the CMF-BEV platform, a joint project between Nissan and Renault. Although the Renault 5 will maintain its own brand identity, the technology used in both cars will be the same. Nissan's CEO, Ashwani Gupta, highlighted the collaboration between Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi, noting that the Micra is "designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault." The new Micra will retain the round headlights and compact hatchback body style of its predecessors, blending nostalgia with modern appeal. Nissan’s European design vice president, Matthew Weaver, stated the car will embody Nissan’s character while aligning with the brand's design language. The electric Micra will offer two battery options: a base version with a 118-horsepower motor and a 40kWh battery providing a range of up to 193 miles, and an upgraded version with a 148-horsepower motor and a 52kWh battery, offering a range of about 253 miles. Both versions support fast charging, with the larger battery capable of 100kW DC fast charging, allowing 15–80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Manufactured at Renault's ElectriCity plant in Douai, France, the Micra aims to compete with other small electric hatchbacks like the Peugeot E-208 and Mini Cooper SE Electric by offering advanced electric vehicle technology at an affordable price. While the Micra is a popular name in Europe, it is uncertain whether it will be available in other regions, as Nissan Australia has not confirmed its inclusion in the local lineup.
