I wrote this song about Odysseus after reading through the Odyssey for a class. I was struck by the amount of times he ends up washing on a shore somewhere and I thought that would definitely get old. I wrote this song playing around with the idea of if he actually wants to get back home or not, and the push and pull of the sea. I do think he loves adventuring, and Odysseus reminded me of folk songs of sailors who love adventuring and roaming… kind of like Boots of Spanish Leather. Hope you like it, and let me know your thoughts :) Lyrics: What I mean to say is I better pick it up Shake it off Leave it alone Back and forth and I need to pick it up Stick it out Don’t let it go By the way I’m coming home Coming soon Woah By the way I’m coming home Coming soon Hm Flowers on a hillside looking strangely back at me Just a somber hallelujah And a lonely tea for three But aren’t we all just looking to be free? Flowers on a hillside looking strangely back at me On a shoreline by the sea And a lonely tea for three Staring so arrogantly Oh sea stays the same Never really changes Never really changes And the water’s getting lonely Drifting slowly back to sea And the shore looks like I knew it would Surprise me Please, surprise me And by the way, I’m coming home Coming soon Woah By the way I’m coming home Coming soon Hm (Words & Music by me :)
