The Großer Schuttigumzug (Great Schuttig Procession) is a pre-Lenten procession and celebration held every year in the town of Elzach in the Black Forest. The Schuttig is the traditional figure and symbol of Elzach. He dons an elaborate costume covered in "scales" of red fabric. Besides the masks made of linden wood representing demons, foxes, boars (just to name a few), he wears a hat made of shells and three big fluffy red balls on his head. In his hand, he usually carries a whip made of bull pizzle with inflated pig's bladders hanging from one end, though some of them holds a broom or a Schuttigscherer (Schuttig scissors) instead, as you would see in the video. The favourite past-time of these Schuttig figures seem to be growling and hitting spectators with their pizzle-bladder weapon.
