Solemnity of St. Arnold Janssen on 15 January 2026 - Tiwi Islands

Yesterday, in Wurrumiyanga on the Tiwi Islands, on this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Sunday 18 January 2026), we - Our Lady of Peace and St Therese Parish - also celebrated Saint Arnold Janssen (1837–1909), the founder of the SVD Congregation. At the end of the nineteenth century, in a difficult and uncertain time, he trusted deeply in the Holy Spirit. From that trust was born a great missionary family: the Missionaries of the Divine Word (1875), the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (1889), the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration (1896), and many lay groups. Different vocations, one single root: mission, Trinitarian spirituality, and complete confidence in the action of the Holy Spirit. We also give thanks for the seed of faith planted by the MSC missionaries and OLSH sisters who came before us. Their dedication, sacrifice, and love prepared the ground on which we continue to serve today. What we do now is built on what they began. Please continue to pray for us, as we pray for you. Together, guided by the Holy Spirit, may we keep the faith strong and alive for future generations. Thank you, and may God bless you all.
