(13 February 2025 - Only By Grace Reflections) First Reading: 1 Kings 11:29-32; 12:19 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 81:10-11ab, 12-13, 14-15 Alleluia: Acts 16:14b Gospel: Mark 7:31-37 In the Gospel, Jesus heals a deaf man with a speech difficulty. He pulls him aside, touches his ears and tongue, looks to heaven, and commands, “Ephphatha!” (“Be opened!”) Instantly, the man's hearing returns, and he speaks clearly. This miracle shows Christ’s compassion and His wish to help us fully connect with God: opening our ears to hear His Word, our eyes to see His truth, and our mouths to declare His goodness. The deafness and speech issues highlight deeper spiritual truths. Many of us hear God’s Word but don't truly listen, distracted by media, worries, and ambitions. We also struggle to witness or speak God’s truth in love. Jesus’ command, “Be opened!” is not just for the man in the Gospel but for us today: Be open to God’s voice, will, and grace.
