This year the annual Parkes Lecture was a conversation between actor, writer and director David Schneider and our colleagues Devorah Baum and Katie Power. It was chaired by the vice-chancellor of the university, Mark E. Smith. During this spirited and lively discussion, peppered with hilarious jokes in English or Yiddish, the audience laughed a lot while learning about Schneider's family connection with the Yiddish theatre, including his grandfather Abish Meisels, the director of the New Yiddish Theatre in London, before going on to look at his more recent career as a director and writer. As every year, we are grateful to Elizabeth Moss and Dawn Waterman for presenting the Moss and Cesarani prizes to our students.
