Title: Complements and Insults: A New Approach to Glomerular Diseases with Therapeutic Potential Speaker: Dr. Ratna Samanta, MSc MDCM FRCPC, Associate Professor, Division of Nephrology MGH Site Director for Nephrology MUHC Educational objectives 1.Discuss the systemic complement cascade 2.Review evidence of involvement in glomerular disease 3.Explore some therapeutic targets Biosketch of Dr. Ratna Samanta, MSc MDCM FRCPC: Dr. Samanta is an Associate Professor at McGill University; she obtained her Masters degree at Yale University in Chronic Disease Epidemiology and then completed a clinical fellowship in Glomerulonephritis at the University of Toronto. After joining McGill, Dr Samanta started the MUHC GlomeruloNephritis Clinic, and serves as the nephrology liaison for the monthly joint Rheum-Nephro Lupus clinic. She chairs the monthly McGill NephroPathology Rounds, and has given various talks on the national stage on the management of glomerular disease and lupus. Dr Samanta is involved in various multinational clinical trials in glomerular diseases and has worked in conjunction with NephCure, to organize and chair the first Montreal-based patient conference to heighten patients’ understanding of glomerular disease and treatment opportunities. Dr. Samanta also serves on the Canadian Society of Nephrology (CSN) Board of Directors as the Director at Large for Quebec.
