A Champion for Artists of the Caribbean and Latin American Diaspora: Rosie Gordon-Wallace | Art Loft

Rosie Gordon-Wallace has long been recognized a community leader and arts advocate. Here, she shares about the journey of starting the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator (DVCAI), what’s next for the organization, and the role of art in community. DVCAI is a Miami-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, nurturing, and cultivating the vision and diverse talents of emerging artist from the Caribbean and Latin American diaspora. Gordon-Wallace established DVCAI in 1996 as a place to bring people together around art and support its creators. DVCAI offers various programs, including artist-in-residence opportunities, international cultural exchanges, and community outreach events. Gordon-Wallace tells the story of how her professional background in microbiology gave her an appreciation for the incubator setting. DVCAI supports and showcases artists of Caribbean and Latin American descent, giving them both space to experiment and a platform to exhibit. Over the years, she has supported countless artists in their careers. Join DVCAI at “The Whole World is Churning,” a new exhibition at Barry University curated by Gordon-Wallace. The exhibition features multiple artists all exploring themes of identity, migration, and cultural exchange. The exhibition opening is part of the next phase of Gordon-Wallace’s journey: succession and collaboration.
