La Cavalcata Sarda è una festa dove ogni anno oltre duemila persone vestite con l’abito tradizionale sfilano in rappresentanza dei comuni dell’Isola. Le radici storiche della Cavalcata Sarda rimandano alle cavalcate per le vie della città in onore dei regnanti. La prima edizione moderna si svolse nel 1899 per l’inaugurazione del monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II in piazza d’Italia, alla presenza del re Umberto I e della regina Margherita di Savoia. Sono da ricordare anche le edizioni del 1929 e del 1939, organizzate in occasione della visita di esponenti della casa reale. La Cavalcata Sarda è stata riscoperta nei primi anni Cinquanta e da allora si tiene ogni anno la penultima domenica di maggio. Uno spettacolo indimenticabile che dà vita al più grande evento laico della Sardegna. Una grande festa di primavera che si è meritata il titolo di “festa della bellezza”, proprio per la ricchezza e la maestosità che la caratterizzano. Sounds, colors, music and dances, jewels, costumes and horses: every year, over two thousand people wearing traditional costumes set off for Sassari from every part of Sardinia to gather at the annual unmissable meeting, the “Cavalcata Sarda”. Its roots lie in the parades on horseback through the streets of the city organised in honour of rulers. The first modern versions of the Cavalcata Sarda took place on the occasion of visits to the city by illustrious personalities, such as in 1899 for the unveiling of the statue of Vittorio Emanuele II in Piazza d’Italia, on the presence of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoia. The events in 1929 and 1939 are also worthy of note; these were organised on the occasion of visits by members of the Royal Family. The Cavalcata Sarda was rediscovered at the beginning of the 1950s and since then the event has taken place every year on the second-last Sunday of May.
