Detailed lecture on anatomy and basic bioemechanics of subtalar and tranverse tarsal joint. The subtalar joint is also called talocalcaneal joint and transverse tarsall joint includes two seperate joints namely, TALONAVICULAR AND CALCANEOCUBIOD JOINT. The Subtalar joint is a composite joint in such that the joint itself includes three seperate atriculations namely anterior, middle and posterior atriculations. This atricular surfaces have a reverse congruence which makes function at subtalar joint a complex one . There is a tarsal canal or sinus tarsi that runs obliquly and divide joint cavities and seperates them. The transverse tarsal joint inturn is made of talonavicular and calacenocubiod joints of which talonavicular behaves like a ball and socket joint and calcanecubiod a modifed saddle or condyloid joint. Details regarding role of tarsal canal, what is tarsal canal, what is sinus tarsi etc are mentioned along with details into spring ligament and cervical ligament of ankle along with other ligaments.
