According to the AAA, Tennessee gas prices are surging following the US-Israeli conflict. Some people in the Mid-State are feeling the impacts as affordability continues to be an issue. The AAA says gas prices have gone up 42 cents on average in Tennessee over the last week, with Nashville taking the biggest hit at an average of $3.10. FOX 17 News has gone to multiple gas stations across the area and has seen gas as much as $3.34 in Bellevue. Drivers in Nashville we spoke with said rising gas prices are forcing them to cut back on other expenses. “I just paid $2.39 yesterday,” said driver D’Angelo Boyd, who stopped at the North Nashville Exxon. “It’s $3.29 — it’s high.” Boyd said the rising cost of gas is adding pressure to an already expensive cost of living. “It’s an automatic pile up every day,” Boyd said, referencing the combination of high rent, food, and fuel prices. Over at a Shell gas station in Bellevue, Eric Bonner is also cutting corners just to keep up with the cost at the pump. “Cut costs on food, cut costs for my dogs, attempting to make it up where you can,” said Bonner. Because he is an Uber Eats driver, he said his livelihood is affected by the gas price surge. “It affects me a lot. That’s a lot of my money that is just toast,” said Bonner. Lipscomb University management professor Andrew Borchers tells me high gas prices can impact businesses and grocery prices. “When businesses pay more for gas, then they have to charge more for their products because that is part of their cost of delivering their product,” Borchers said. I asked Borchers how quickly gas prices could drop. “They come up and down very quickly, within days, a few weeks at most,” Borchers said. “When conflict is resolved and the oil price goes down, we will see those gas prices go down.” Drivers are hoping relief comes soon. “They’re taking the small dollars every single day with every single gallon,” Boyd said. https://fox17.com/news/local/war-in-i... _______________ Follow!
