The commercial and deep cultural value rooted in the creative economy is critical for both economic development and global solidarity. But COVID-19 has dealt a terrible blow to the creative industries. Before the pandemic, the creative economy accounted for 3% of global GDP, employing 30 million people. Now cancellations of shows and concerts alone has cost authors roughly 30% of global royalties. The film industry has reported a revenue loss of $7 billion. We must protect and promote our creative industries and the role they play in helping us create a more sustainable, inclusive world.
