Yes, we met the Flamingos on almost 5’000m in the Salar de Uyuni. But first we visited the beautiful colonial towns of Sucre and Potosi. Both cities are astonishingly beautiful but there is a dark secret to this beauty. Potosi is infamous for being home to the former biggest silver mine in the world. In the 15th and 16th century the Spanish inquisitors deported millions of Indians to this mine and forced them to dig for silver in quasi slavery. The working conditions were so terrible that 7 to 8 million Indians died in this time. And the ones profiting from the mine sponsored all those beautiful buildings. We had to see this with our own eyes and therefore climbed deep down into the heart of the mine. After returning from the mine we continued our trip to Uyuni and from there into the Salar de Uyuni, the biggest salt desert of the world. This place was simply overwhelming. We took hilarious pictures in the dry white areas and couldn’t separate the sky from the ground any more in the wet areas. We met Llamas and Vicuñas, Chinchillas and finally the most beautiful pink Flamingos we could imagine. We hope we could inspire you to travel this beautiful country.
