Great coverage from the Rotorua MCC Scramble held at Ngongotaha, New Zealand on November 7, 1971. The meeting marked one of the first times that young British star Randy Owen had raced in NZ, taking on many of the big Kiwi names of the day. All the riders are also filmed chatting in the pits, along with racing driver Graeme Lawrence. Randy Owen rides two different bikes in this film, while his younger brother Rowly withdraws from the race. Their brother-in-law Ross McLaren explains: "Randy rode my yellow 360cc CZ #111 in practice and Rowly rode my brother Doug's red 360cc CZ #3, (a few brief frames show Rowly on the red CZ). "In the pits afterwards, we see Rowly getting changed back into his ordinary clothes. Randy is then shown on Doug's red CZ #3 for the races, wearing a different coloured shirt. "What I think happened is that Randy took over Rowly's bike after engine trouble in practice for the #111 yellow CZ and Randy also raced in a different coloured shirt (from green to orange)." Featured in this film: Ross McLaren, (250cc CZ, #24, borrowed from Brian Lawrence) Lou Peeti, (400cc Suzuki, #6) Peter Ploen, (400cc Suzuki, #7) Alan Collison, (400cc CZ, #1) Laurie Love, (250cc Suzuki, #15) Morley Shirriffs, (250cc Yamaha, #2) Randy Owen (360cc CZ, #111, for practice, yellow bike borrowed from Ross McLaren. Then switches to red 360cc CZ, #3, for races, borrowed from Doug McLaren). Rowly Owen (360cc CZ, #3, for practice. Hands the bike to brother Randy for races).
