Contact us: 📲: +974 5034 3737 E - [email protected] celebrating the British Council and 0:53 they've been in business now for 90 0:55 years 90 years and the ripples that 0:58 they've created would helping others is 1:00 tremendous it's not ripples anymore it's 1:02 actually waves so this is what they've 1:04 done on a global basis today we've got 1:07 Professor Samir Samir thank you Sam 1:09 Ahmed yeah yeah yeah welcome to the 1:12 podcast thanks very much for inviting me 1:14 it's really my pleasure to be here and 1:16 uh participate in the celebration of the 1:19 British Council and you're a great 1:21 person could you introduce everybody 1:23 yourself and your what you do right yeah 1:26 um as you mentioned I'm a professor of 1:28 mechanical engineering at K University 1:29 univers I before that I did my BHD at 1:33 Cambridge 1:34 University uh for in between 2003 1:39 2007 then I stayed in Cambridge doing 1:43 bosok research uh for around 2 years 1:47 then I moved to the Middle East area for 1:50 to be a faculty in in the University so 1:53 first I went to Saudi Arabia King fad 1:56 University okay uh for like three years 1:59 then I came here I I'm going to take you 2:02 back to Cambridge cuz it's probably one 2:04 of the best cities in the UK for me 2:07 right right out of all the other big 2:09 ones Cambridge is is is really special 2:11 to me because of the weather normally 2:13 when I'm going there the the the history 2:16 what was it like being a member of 2:18 Cambridge 2:19 University yeah when I first maybe I 2:22 didn't mention how I I got the the the 2:26 BHD at Cambridge University at when I 2:28 was in Egypt I finished my master and uh 2:31 bachelor degree uh a British Petroleum 2:34 Company announced for a scholarship uh 2:36 to the the the the Cambridge to do PhD 2:39 at Cambridge University and I 2:41 participated among like thousands you 2:44 know Egypt Egypt like is more than 100 2:46 billion people I mean it was a very 2:48 tough competition and luckily I chosen 2:51 for that uh 2:52 scholarship uh so when I went to 2:55 Cambridge everyone told me even the I 2:57 met the ambassador of the British 2:59 ambassador at at Cairo uh he said this 3:03 is like a University City I didn't 3:07 recognize what that means but when I 3:09 went to Cambridge I found like it's like 3:11 you are walking in an open Museum uh 3:16 these colleges the the university 3:18 building and everything in the city like 3:21 linked with the university in in a way 3:23 or another apart from of the beauty 3:26 landscape the weather yeah all of that 3:28 you can tell 3:30 whatever you would like to tell but to 3:33 to find a a whole city like within a 3:37 university or a university within a city 3:39 this is was a new for me the history was 3:43 just when you must have been there in 3:46 the in the universities to be walking in 3:49 the same foot press Footprints is some 3:51 of the biggest Minds that the world has 3:54 ever seen must have been special right 3:56 yeah I mean those uh Nobel Prize winner 4:00 or uh something like uh Trinity College 4:04 when this hall for you know different in 4:08 inventors and great scientist yeah you
