Using Oatmeal to remove excess Linseed Oil from intricately shaped projects. Linseed oil provides a nice finish and enhances the natural color of wood. However, for clock wheels, the unabsorbed surface film of linseed oil can turn sticky and attract dust, which will cause a wood gear clock to stop. Hopefully this process will remove the excess linseed oil allowing clock builders to finish their wood wheels. I used a kitchen food processor to chop the oatmeal into finer pieces (you do not want dust, just smaller pieces) and the smaller pieces can pack into the shape of the gears better and more efficiently. The better surface contact the oatmeal has with the gears, the better it can absorb the excess oil.
