The Haunted Ruins of Burgh Castle - Great Yarmouth 4K

‘Saxon Shore’ fort at Burgh Castle was built in the late 3rd century and was abandoned some one hundred years later. Originally built as part of the Roman network of costal defences nearly two thousand years ago remarkably three stone walls still survive today. The fourth wall was lost to the marshes many years ago. The remains mark one of the best preserved Roman monuments in Britain. Given the rich history of this site it is no surprise there are plenty of paranormal stories linked to the location. A fearsome large doglike creature nicknamed ‘Old Scarfe’ has been known to appear. Named after a villainous 13th century German mercenary who once lived nearby. After his death it is said the devil turned him into a large werewolf type creature to continue to terrorise the local community. Said to be huge in size and black in colour with a singular eye which glows either red or green. Other paranormal activity surrounds a spectral figure dressed in a white flag, seen being thrown from the castle walls. In the past many fell to their death by this method of tough justice if found to be guilty of criminality.
