NASHVILLE, Tenn. - We now have a name for the $174 million bus rapid transit line Mayor Karl Dean wants to build from East Nashville to St. Thomas Hospital. Metro Transit Authority plans to call the line the Amp. The bus rapid transit system would operate similar to a line in Cleveland, with dedicated bus lanes and bus stations in the center of the street. Officials are also releasing some key details of the Amp, including money numbers. The state and federal government would pick up most of the tab, but Metro Nashville would be responsible for $59 million. Here's what Mayor Karl Dean had to say about where that money will come from:That's something we'll get to when we get to it, but I do think this is a type of investment the city needs to make, says Mayor Dean. We're looking for somewhere around 49% from the federal government. We're looking for an investment from the state and I think the city needs to participate.Using the Amp, passengers will be able to get from East Nashville to White Bridge Road in 16 minutes. That's half the time it's expected to take by car when the line would open in 2016. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook: / foxnashville WZTV on Twitter: / foxnashville Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube: / @fox17nashville Daily News Playlist: • Плейлист For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
