The Apple Lisa could run UNIX too. Why stick with a bloated GUI environment putting a heavy drain on computing resources when one can have that slim command-line environment! In retrospect, Xenix would make a better fit for the Lisa than the LOS (Lisa Office System). Xenix used fewer resources, and conformed to industry standard UNIX specifications. In fact, most of the graphical workstations of the time ran some form of the UNIX operating system. The most notable of those was Sun OS, which was a graphical UNIX system used on the Sun Workstations. Xenix, which was Microsoft's licensed version of the UNIX operating system, ran on many platforms. It was released for various workstations, and IBM PC/AT, and of course, the Apple Lisa. UNIX was a powerful command-line OS that offered powerful multitasking and multiuser features. It was very stable and was designed with networking in mind. If their was a recommended OS to run on the Lisa, it would have been this. While many UNIX systems were widely different, Xenix was very standard. Microsoft licensed the OS from Bell Labs (AT&T). After the breakup of the Bell monopoly in 1982, AT&T assumed exclusive control of UNIX. As such, with no control in the OS's direction, Microsoft entered into the agreement with IBM to create OS/2 and Microsoft's UNIX business was sold to SCO (Santa Cruz Operation). Microsoft Xenix became SCO Xenix, which would eventually become both UNIXware and OpenServer. After SCO was acquired by Caldera, SCO became a victim of Caldera's frivolous and empty lawsuit against IBM for selling Linux. SCO's reputation was nuked as a result of Caldera's absurdity. Such a sad fate of a much respected company. Microsoft Xenix https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenix
