In recent days, social media has turned purple as thousands across South Africa and beyond rally behind the Women for Change movement. This call to action, dubbed the "Purple Movement," has gone viral as the organisation prepares for a national shutdown on November 21, just ahead of the G20 Summit. The protest aims to draw urgent attention to South Africa's ongoing crisis of gender-based violence and femicide, under the striking message: "We bury a woman every 25 hours." The movement is calling on women to withdraw their labour, refrain from spending, and stand still for 15 minutes at noon—to symbolise the women whose lives are lost daily. Daily Roundup presenter Nina Katangana spoke to Katerina Katopodis, Editor‑in‑Chief at Kaya 959 (formerly Kaya FM) in South Africa, to explore the vision behind the movement, the symbolism of the purple wave, and the role media plays in covering this shutdown. #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcPlusApp
