Let's get started talking about the Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol or EIGRP. Like RIP and OSPF, it is normally deployed as an interior routing protocol (IGP) and falls in the category of distance vector protocols. In this video we will go over some of the key ideas as we prepare for a build and a review of the packet types. From RFC 7868: DUAL, the algorithm used to converge the control plane to a single set of loop-free paths is based on research conducted at SRI International. The Diffusing Update Algorithm (DUAL) is the algorithm used to obtain loop freedom at every instant throughout a route computation. This allows all routers involved in a topology change to synchronize at the same time; the routers not affected by topology changes are not involved in the recalculation.
