Here I presented one of the most important events in the modern history of Portugal: The Carnation Revolution (in Portuguese: Revolução dos Cravos), when a group of young officers overthrew the Estado Novo dictatorship of Marcello Caetano. The coup began with the airing of Portugal’s song from the 1974 Eurovision competition, Paulo de Carvalho's "E Depois do Adeus" on 24 April at 10:55 p.m. The revolution brought an end to colonization in Africa and a process of returning to democracy and adopting a new constitution in Portugal. General António de Spínola was the first post-Revolution President of Portugal, before free elections were organized. The name of the revolution arose from the fact that almost no shots were fired, and the population who took the streets to celebrate the end of the dictatorship offered carnations to the soldiers, which were placed in the muzzles of guns and on the soldiers' uniforms. ------------------------------------------ Voice & editing: Nicolae Bondar (myself) Music: The Heartache, by Ugonna Onyekwe, downloaded from YouTube Audio Library Information Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnati... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugu... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcelo... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant%C3%... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant%C3%... https://euroveloportugal.com/en/poi/l... https://theculturetrip.com/europe/por... https://www.discoverwalks.com/blog/po...
