22nd November 2016 The Taiwan Railway Administration [TRA] South Link Line between Taitung and Zinzuoying is well known for its EMD G22 locomotive hauled trains although by the time I visited they had very much reduced. First seen is R128 backing on to train 751 at Xinzuoying, followed by the view from the window at Kaohsiung of EMD G12 R43 running alongside. R128 can be barely heard through the glass as the train passes the old Dashu Bridge near Jiuqutang. At Fanglio, R120 is seen waiting to depart with train 3671, which it does after R128 is seen departing with train 751. After leaving the station the locomotive can be heard working hard, especially in the tunnels and on the gradients. The wind noise had to be suppressed in places on the audio but overall it was as good as I remember it. At a couple of stops trains formed of DMU stock passed in the opposite direction and at Jinlun [where a new road bridge is being built] one of these overtook while a Japanese tourist was taking pictures of everyone and everything. Now probably unique in Taiwan, trains 3671 & 3672 [Fanglio to Taitung and back] use non air conditioned coaches with opening windows to ply up and down the most scenic section of railway on the whole island. I had to get off at Taimali, where R120 is seen departing, followed by R129 with the daily tourist train, train 51, followed by R108 arriving with train 704. A GoPro Hero4 Silver was used to record the roof view, some of the out the window shots and the interior view [spoilt by having some scruffy old bloke getting on the wrong side of the camera] and a Sony HDR-CX190 for most of the out the window shots and some interior.
