Philippine Tribes: Mangyan of Oriental Mindoro

The livelihood of 77% of the population is based on under-developed agriculture, 72% of which employ the slash and burn method. They lack alternative livelihood, and can only sell one crop at a time, with a limited market of only their surrounding villages. Today, the Mangyans live secludedly in remote parts of Mindoro but eventually comes down to the lowlands in order to make usual trades. Their sustenance are farming for their own crops, fruits, and hunting. Amidst this pandemic, the least I can do to them is to donate goods to help them a little. So I have come up to interview their leader and ask some question to inform others and ask him if I could post it online and he agreed. I have learned that most of mangyans have this lively personality where they laugh and laugh, a few of them can speak Filipino so I at most times, I didn’t actually understand their conversation. I can conclude that tribes should be protected and treated normally because they have something to protect and that is their indigenous culture.
