The velvet pro (VP) is a custom mechanical keyboard designed by ampersandy https://ampersandy.co, / discord . It features a relatively uncommon Dual o-ring mount that's directly inspired by the now discontinued Noxary Vulcan Pro. The one in this video is a one-off commission for my personal collection, the first board I would consider truly "custom". While I never got to try the Vulcan Pro (🥲🪦💸 🏃♂️➡️), I'm very happy to finally have the chance to try its famed dual o-ring mount. I like the mounting style a lot so far. If you've typed on a Bakeneko, the Velvet Pro feels similar to that board, but a touch stiffer and more consistent throughout the alphas and mods - almost like a top-mounted board with a bit of flex. This, along with the low front lip and a comfortable 7° typing angle makes one of the nicest boards I've had the pleasure of using. I haven't been able to go back to another MX board since building this one. Mineral oil or the X-20 thinnner I used in the video should work. VERY IMPORTANT: Always test your paint and paint thinner on an obscured part of the board to make sure that there are no strange reactions. You can always correct mistakes using thinner. The paint is delicate and will easily scratch off with a toothpick after drying, so don't panic if you make mistakes. The method I used in this video doesn't result in durable paint, so if your keyboard is used in an environment with a lot of wear and tear, the paint will wear off (would you ever roughhouse with a fancy custom board though?). More thinner will result in paint that flows better and settles more evenly, at the cost of needing more coats of paint.
