INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 6:00 am 9-19-25 LOCATION: 2124 E Violet st AREA/CITY:DTLA DETAILS: LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Over 100 firefighters flew into action this morning when a fire tore through a Downtown Los Angeles commercial building, causing a mezzanine to collapse inside the structure and spreading flames into adjoining buildings. The fire, which was declared a major emergency, was reported about 5:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Violet Street on the east side of downtown L.A. No injuries were reported, but the fire was under "active investigation," said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The first arriving crews encountered flames coming through the roof of the one-story building, Humphrey said. A total of 109 firefighters joined the battle, which for a time involved defensive operations as crews poured water on the building from a safe distance. The mezzanine collapsed inside the building as the fire burned and crews doused the flames with ladder hoses.
