I explore a variety of key concepts around foraging, conservation, sustainability, safety and advice you need to know when heading out to make your own natural colours whether you're dyeing yarn, ecoprinting fabrics or other textiles. I'll also cover the three guidelines for ethical foraging and how these can be applied no matter where you are in the world. Whether you are wanting to create colours with plants, lichens or mushrooms, this information will help get you off on the right foot. I'll also cover what you should know when it comes to dyeing with invasive plants. This advice is based on 20 years of biological research in the field, as well as teaching how to forage, process and use your own natural dyes. Four Chapters: 0:24 - Should you dye with poisonous materials? 3:50 - How to wildcraft ethically and what you should know when planning forages? 9:29 - How to plan for safe forages, and how intersectionality may factor into how people are able to safely access the outdoors. 11:25 - Explore my background in conservation and biology (and basically being a giant nerd).
