1. Introduce yourself, Lynn O'Donnell. I am a Realtor in the South Bay. …………………………………………………………………………………………Introduce your animal (name, type, race, age when he was treated with electrochemotherapy) Luther is a male Rottweiler. He is approx. 8 ½ years old. I rescued him 7 ½ years ago and they said he was approx. one year old. Luther was treated with electrochemotherapy on November 22, 2017 ………………………………………………………………………………………… 2. Introduce the tumor (name, localization, grade, how many if several, how did you realize he had a tumor?) Luther had a bump on the bottom of his mouth behind his bottom teeth. I had a biopsy done in October. The results said it was bengin with mild nuclear atypia. It was marked suspicious because it is in the mouth and because it grew rather quickly. It is hard to tell how quickly it grew because it was hidden by his tongue most of the time. … 3. Tell us why your animal has been treated with electrochemotherapy, by which doctor, in which clinic, how many sessions if several, how often, which other treatments did he have before and after, why did you choose electrochemotherapy, the side effects, when he has been treated by electrochemotherapy? Were you afraid of the treatment? Why? Dr Villalobos in Hermosa Beach treated Luther We had one treatment. I went to the Cancer Clinic in Culver City for tests. They checked the lymph nodes and lungs to see if there were signs of cancer. There was not any signs of cancer. They charged me a lot for those tests. Then, they recommended intense surgery to remove some of the bottom of the mouth, teeth, and bone under the growth. Because my Rott is older, and because of the reviews that I read about electrochemotherapy as an effective alternative, I sought out Dr Villalobos in Hermosa Beach. I felt comfortable with the Doctors experience. She is very knowledgeable about canine cancers. I read a lot about the procedure on line and I felt it was the right decision. It is a less invasive surgery and more cost effective. I am hopeful. After surgery my dog's mouth was very sensitive for a couple of weeks. He also had bad breath and drooled a lot. He took antibiotics and that seemed to help. He laid around and did not eat much. I had to soften his food. At the end of the second week he started acting more normal. It has been 6 or 7 weeks since the surgery and Luther is back to his strong playful self. He seems to be healing well. …………………………………… 4. What are the results? Satisfactory or not? Why ? Would you recommend this treatment to another owner? Why? How old is your animal now? Have you observed reocrrence? It has not been very long since the surgery but all is well. No sign of the bump - just some puffiness and discoloration where the bump was. So far, yes, I would recommend this surgery. I will keep the doctors office updated as to his progress.
