STAR BREAD or PUTOK BREAD It is a variant of Monay Bread (Pan de Monja) & is one of popular Filipino bread snacks. It’s a sweet, milky & dense bread roll distinguished with cross-shaped cut & sprinkled sugar on top. I made this STAR BREAD version which taste, size & inside texture is similar to MONAY BREAD! ☺️ STAR BREAD outside, Monay inside😊 ✔️Ingredients 1 cup lukewarm milk (fresh or evap) [240 ml] 1/2 cup lukewarm water [120 ml] 3 tbsp sugar (for yeast proofing) 1 large egg 2 & 1/2 tsp active dry yeast 1/4 cup veg. oil [60 ml] 1/2 cup sugar [100 grams] 1/2 cup powdered milk [65 grams] 4 cups all purpose flour [512 grams] 1 tsp salt *extra 1/8 cup veg. oil (for kneading) *1 egg (for egg wash) ✔️Topping (optional) 4 tbsp butter [56 grams] 1/8 cup sugar [30 grams] 🎛Baking time: 30-35 mins or until brown @ 180C (baking time/temp varies with oven specs, im using conventional oven with bottome flame only) ☑️If using instant yeast, no need to proof, you can add & mix directly into the mixture. ☑️Either all purpose flour or bread flour is ok to use. 💡Tips📝 ✏️If your dough mixture seems too dry, you may add up some milk/butter/oil & mix BEFORE kneading. ✏️Dough is normally sticky at first, just keep on kneading until smooth. DO NOT ADD FLOUR when kneading, better grease kneading surface & hands with oil if dough is sticky.
