In this video, I’ll show you how to make a beautiful beaded Christmas ornament using tiny seed beads and a simple netting technique. It’s an easy and relaxing DIY project that will turn any plain bauble into a sparkling handmade decoration! Whether you’re new to beadwork or already love creating with beads, this tutorial will guide you step by step through every detail. For my design, I used Czech seed beads size 2 mm in two festive colors, but you can use Japanese or even Chinese beads — they’ll all look stunning. If you prefer, you can also make your ornament with just one color for a more minimal look. You’ll need a strong beading thread, a beading needle, and a stop bead that we’ll secure in the middle of the thread. We’ll start weaving in one direction first. Once the thread runs out, we’ll switch the needle to the other end and continue adding rows until the pattern reaches the perfect length to fit your bauble. My Christmas ball has a diameter of 7.5 cm (about 3 inches), but this technique easily adapts to any size — the pattern repeats beautifully and is easy to memorize. The weaving method we’ll use is called netting stitch, and it creates a delicate, flexible mesh that hugs the surface of the ornament perfectly. First, we’ll make the middle belt and stitch it together. Then, we’ll move on to the upper and lower parts to close the design around the ball. Everything is done with a single continuous thread, so there’s no need to tie or add new pieces — super convenient and beginner-friendly!
