Recollecting the first time someone acknowledged an unhealthy relationship in my life with a parent. Although they didn't really acknowledge the abuse I felt "a little bit seen". This video is the first time I have every talked about it to anyone. I never even discussed it with the person who was helping me. I froze and couldn't speak about it to her. We are all traumatized people. All of us would have benefited from a required personal development course in High School. They don't teach us about self-discovery and emotional healing. We are left to sort this out on our own. We all need a support system for healing from trauma. People pleasing becomes our first unconscious choice. As recovering people-pleasers we want to choose self-care, self-compassion, and self-love EVERY TIME.
