Technology in all shapes and forms has become ubiquitous and integral across all parts of society, offering the potential to simplify and support our everyday lives. However, many of the devices and software solutions we encounter today are complex, unreliable, and poorly matched to real human needs. As the integration of AI and technology continues to evolve, we risk the creation of a dystopian future where technology hinders and frustrates people, creating barriers and problems rather than improving our lives. While it is easy to blame end-users for their inability to successfully use technology, the reality is that poor design and a lack of understanding of contexts of use are the real villains. The solution to our current and future interaction problems is simple, designers must engage with people before, during, and after development, continually refining until technology genuinely fits into peoples real lived experiences. We must take action collectively by insisting on better design, by teaching human-centred principles, and by remembering that technology only succeeds when people remain at its centre. .
