The electric potential at a point due to a point charge. The electric field of a single independent point charge is variable. It is strong near the charge and goes on decreasing as we move away from it and becomes zero at infinity. Work done on a unit positive test charge from infinity to a point in the electric field gives electric potential at that point due to the point charge. Electric potential is calculated by assuming two points that are very close to each other. The potential difference is calculated from the expression of the potential gradient. The electric potential has inverse relation with the distance from the point charge.
