The weekend of September 14 and 15 was an amazing weekend for Railfans in the North East US! This past weekend the Saratoga and North Creek Railway hosted the 4 year old 1800s Victorian replica steam locomotive (4-4-0) #63 also known as "The Leviathan". #63 was brought up to North Creek via trailer on Friday the 13th of September, with two planned excursions running from Corinth to North Creek,NY and return with a 1926 Canadian National day coach lettered in "Adirondack Railway" paint. Unfortunately, after Saturdays excursion none of the crews had enough cab time to return #63 and her coach to Corinth for the next days excursion, and because of the Teddy Roosevelt Excursion train running the same day (Sunday) they were not able to ferry move #63 down to Corinth for the excursion and it was canceled. Fortunately the people at the SNCRR worked out a train to bring the people planned to ride the Leviathan Excursion to North Creek, and we did get to see her under steam!! In this video you will witness this absolute gem of a locomotive 'The Leviathan' and Alco switcher #821 prepare her for her run south to Corinth where she was loaded on her Trailer and headed back home. Also in the Mix you will see the Arrival (with BL-2 #52) and one Southbound shot (B39-8E) of the 112th Anniversary Teddy Roosevelt train, remembering Teddy's fateful ride on the D&H from North Creek when he was given the news that Mckinley had been shot and killed and he would become the 26th president of the United States. After the Roosevelt Excursion passed through the Leviathan was finally able to make her Southbound Main line run to Corinth near dusk, and we have two shots in Stoney Creek,NY. Unfortunately another issue plagued the day when #63 was stopped in Hadley with low water. Thanks for watching, and thank-you very much to the Saratoga and North Creek Railroad for holding this event, and the crews of the Leviathan. Hopefully #63 will visit again with a more organized excursion. R&TP
