Non-destructive testing uses various physical methods, e.g. ultrasonic and X-ray testing. Microwave testing is appropriate to test parts from plastics and further dielectrics, that is from non-conductive materials. This includes soil and material used in civil engineering. The method how to use microwave testing in such material is called Ground Penetration Radar (GPR). It used frequencies in the lower microwave frequency region, i.e. up to 2...5 GHz. This video shows a GPR test of the bridge 111 of the route 95, for which the New Hampshire Department of Transportation is responsible.
