Biratnagar Jute Mill labor movement was the first Trade Union movement in Nepal began on March 4, 1947. It was the time of the Rana oligarchy in Nepal. Biratnagar Jute Mill was established in 1936 A.D. It was Nepal's first production factory established under the Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shamsher Rana. The government administrated the mill at that time. Biratnagar Jute mill strike was the first protest against the autocratic Rana regime and the beginning of Nepalese's fight for democracy. On March 4, 1947, the Jute Mill workers held banners to demand their rights and reforms. Women contributed to the protest at the forefront. Reference; Women Participation in Nepali Labour Movement.
