https://www.flickr.com/people/1945087... Big thank you to Robert Heathorn and Stuart Warren for letting me use his photos Back in the day, this was a decent sized yard. Now it is barely noticeable. I barely noticed it. In fact, I drove right past it and had to overshoot it. The line was built in 1915 by the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR). CN took it over and operated it until 1998. The Beachburg sub was then Abandoned from Brent (Algonquin Provincial Park) to Pembroke-Petawawa. The Alderdale sub, which ran from Brent to Northbay was also removed. CN sold remaining Ottawa trackage to a Quebec company that started the Ottawa Central Railway (OCR). Then in 2008, CN wanted to buy the Quebec company. Not the OCR, they wanted some of their other rails. CN ended up with the OCR even though they didn't want it. CN operated the line until 2014 when they scrapped the Beachburg. They removed everything from the end of track to milepost 13. Nepean junction is now the end of the beachburg sub. The remaining track is used on a once a week round trip for a CN local train. The last 6 miles are used by VIA. Not sure why CN left the relay box and container behind. They sure cleaned everything else up. The site of the Smurfit Stone plant is still in use. Still an industrial site.
