To unlock the hard mode and the select level-up method, you have to finish the game at least once. This will also unlock the Class Bands which give a little boost to certain growth rates that differ from one another. I complete all the chapters, beat every boss, collect all the chests, all the treasures, save all the allies and recruit all the characters (except one that can't be recruited if we beat a certain boss) without anyone dying.
